Most Halloween coloring pages are drawn to frighten a seven-year-old: a grinning skull on a blank background, a bat, a single pumpkin floating in white space. That is fine for a classroom party and useless for an adult who wants to spend an evening with a pencil. These twelve are the other kind — rooms you could stand in, with a floor and a window and a shelf of things that have clearly been collected over years.
Every sheet is one continuous scene at US Letter size, drawn as pure black line on white. There is no grey, no shading and no cross-hatching, so nothing fights the colour you put down. Outlines are closed, which means an alcohol marker will not bleed away into the next shape and a child helping you will not be defeated by it.
The palette that works best here is a narrow one. Two oranges, one deep plum and a warm grey will carry a whole sheet and look far better than a full box of pencils used at random. Leave the ghosts white — the paper is doing the work — and put your strongest colour on one small thing: a candle flame, a jar of something, the inside of a pumpkin.
